The goal of this website is to make science-based and general
interest information available to industry stakeholders, researchers,
media, policy-makers and the public on issues related to tree
biotechnology.
Trees are one of the world’s most important renewable resources.
Through the application of genetic research, biotechnology can help
meet the growing demand for wood products by producing more wood on
less land. It contributes to sustainable forestry by improving
plantation productivity and reducing the need to harvest in natural
forests.
Biotechnology can be used to restore endangered tree species and
protect forest species endangered by fungal pathogens and insect pests
to which they have no natural resistance.
Biotechnology can help increase wood quality and yield, create better
lumber and pulp and reduce the need for chemicals in the paper
manufacturing process.
